The Southern University men’s basketball team announce their complete 2022-2023 season schedule. Including 14 non-conference games within the months of November and December before heading into Southwestern Athletic Conference play in January.
The Jags first game this fall will be home as they face Tougaloo College November 3rd kicking off the month of November in which they will have a total of four home games out of the five. After the opening contest, Southern will travel to University of Nevada Las Vegas on November 7th before continuing the road trip on November 11th playing University of Arizona. Saint Mary’s College (Nov. 16) and the University of California (Nov.18). The Jags will return home for a match- up against Loyola Maryland on November 25th and ULM or Nebraska Omaha on November 26th before ending the month of November on the 28th home against Champion Christian College.
Southern starts the month of December on the road, traveling to Louisiana Tech University on December 2nd before heading home to face Louisiana State University-Alexandria on December 10th. They then will have a 2-game home stretch on December 13th and 16th away against Xavier University and Youngstown State University. The Jags will end the non-conference schedule on the road in Alabama to play the University of Alabama Birmingham on December 18th and Southeastern Louisiana University on December 21st.
“Our preconference schedule poses a great and interesting challenge for us this year. Our first four games are all on the west cost starting with UNLV, Arizona, St. Mary’s and Cal. All are top level programs that should be really good challenges for us, said Sean Woods, Southern Men’s Basketball Head Coach. Along with the other teams that we must face should really have us ready competitively at the highest level going into SWAC play!”
Conference play will begin in Texas this season with back-to-back games. First against Texas Southern (Jan. 2nd) and next Prairie View (Jan.4th) before traveling back home for matchups against Florida A&M (Jan.7th) Bethune Cookman (Jan. 9th) and Grambling State (Jan. 14th).
The Jags will be back on the road competing against Arkansas Pine Bluff on January 21st and Mississippi Valley State on January 23rd before heading back to Baton Rouge for a 2-game home stretch against Alcorn State (Jan. 28th) and Jackson State (Jan.30th) to end the month of January.
Back at away after a four-day break, Southern will travel to Alabama A&M on February 4th followed by Alabama State on February 6th.
The second half of the SWAC conference schedule for the Jags is opened in Baton Rouge playing Prairie View (Feb.11th) and Texas Southern (Feb.13th) before heading away for a 3-game stretch against Grambling (Feb. 18th), Bethune Cookman (Feb. 25th) and Florida A&M (Feb. 27th)
To conclude the season, Jaguars will be home to match up against Alabama State on March 2nd Alabama A&M on March 4th.
SWAC Athletic Conference Basketball Tournament will be hosted in Birmingham, AL at Bartow Arena on the campus UAB from March 8th– March 11th.
