SWAC Football Week 9 Honorees

from the Southwestern Athletic Conference:

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Texas Southern’s Andrew Body, Southern’s Ray Anderson and Luke Jackson along with Jackson State’s Shedeur Sanders its SWAC Football Players of the Week for their outstanding performances during games played this past week of competition.

Offensive- Andrew Body quarterback, Texas Southern

Body was a dual-threat for the Tigers as he rushed for 121 yards and one touchdown while passing for 271 yards and four touchdowns in TSU’s 59-17 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff. He was responsible for a total of five touchdowns during the game.


Defensive- Ray Anderson, Linebacker, Southern University

Anderson had an impressive performance for the Jaguars’ defense leading them with 11 tackles. He also contributed 4.0 tackles for loss (-16 yards), one sack, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery for five yards and a game changing pass break up.



Specialist– Luke Jackson, Kicker, Southern University

Jackson converted one of the biggest field goal attempts of his young career as he connected on a 47-yard game winner to give the Jaguars their first victory over Alcorn State in six tries. Jackson also went perfect on the day going 5-of-5 on extra point attempts.

Newcomer- Shadeur Sanders, Quarterback, Jackson State University

Sanders passed for 257 yards to go along with three touchdowns to lead Jackson State past Mississippi Valley State this past weekend by a score of 28-19. He went 18-for-31 during the game and currently leads the SWAC with a 68.4 completion percentage.
