Courtesy of Tennessee State University Athletics BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Tennessee State women’s basketball team had two players take home yearly awards as the Ohio Valley Conference announced its 2022-23 superlative award winners on Tuesday afternoon. Gia Adams was named to the All-OVC Second Team, while Erica Haynes-Overton earned All-OVC First Team honors. Continuing to make her presence felt, for the fifth time this season, Tennessee State guard Erica Haynes-Overton has earned conference honours, with the latest being her fourth time named the Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week. In games against Southeast Missouri and Tennessee Tech, the Kansas graduate transfer put up 22.5 points, 3.5 assists and 2.0 rebounds on .552/.750/.833 splits. In matchups last week, the guard averaged 25.0 points, 4.0 steals, 1.5 assists and shot an uber-efficient 58.6% from the floor. Tennessee State guard Erica Haynes-Overton was named Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week. Although the Tigers came up empty in their games last week, losing a 67-65 nail biter at home to Stetson and a decisive 100-72 beatdown at Southern Illinois, Haynes-Overton averaged 17.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals in the two matchups.
