Tennessee State kicker earned OVC-Big South Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance Saturday against Gardner-Webb. Lowery, a redshirt junior, on two crucial field goals in Tennessee State’s 27-25 win over Gardner Webb in the John Merritt Classic. Late field goal lifts Tennessee State to win over Gardner-Webb in 25th John A. Merritt Classic

Tennessee State was able to get their second win of the season with a dramatic, come from behind-from-behind 27-25 win over 2022 Big South champion Gardner Webb in the 25th John A. Merritt Classic.  After falling behind early,Tennessee State was able to pull even twice, with touchdowns from Daveon Bryant and a Da’Shon Davis squaring the game at 7 and 14 apiece, respectively, but would go into halftime down 17-14. Tennessee State linebacker James Green was named the OVC-Big South Defensive Player of the Week. The Tennessee State Tigers were able claim victory in the 34th Southern Heritage Classic with a 24-14 win over Arkansas Pine Bluff and Green played a major role in the games’ outcome. With 0:54 left in the game, UAPB set up for a potential game-tying field attempt.
