Tennessee State lands seven on Big South-OVC Offensive Players to Watch list

The Big South-OVC Football Alliance named its offensive players to watch this season, and amongst that prestigious list were seven Tennessee State players.

Draylen Ellis | Quarterback | Grad

The 2022 Preseason All-OVC selection appeared in 11 games, making 6 starts. He threw for 1,075 yards and 5 touchdowns, completing 53% ( 103-196) of his passes, throwing for a season-high 236 yards against Lindenwood.

Jordan Gant | Running Back| Redshirt Sophomore

The redshirt sophomore back was the Tigers’ leading rusher last season, tallying 553 yards on 144 attempts. His season-best effort of 105 yards and 2 touchdowns on 18 carries came against Kennesaw State on October 7.

Jalal Dean | Wide Receiver | Senior

The Tennessee Tech transfer appeared in 9 games for the Golden Eagles last season, pulling in 25 receptions for 323 yards.

Jason Hoath | Tight End | Sophomore

The sophomore out of Page High School ( Columbia, TN) was not utilized to a great deal in the passing game, although he appeared in 11 games. He recorded 1 catch for 3 yards on the season.

Connor Meadows | Offensive Lineman | Redshirt Sophomore

Meadows, a University of Tennessee transfer took part in two games for the Volunteers. His brother Ace is a freshman offensive lineman on the team.

Dayron Johnson | Wide Receiver | Senior

Johnson racked up 898 yards on the season. He hauled in a team-leading 39 receptions for 349 yards, which was second-most on the squad. He was also productive in the return game, where he recorded 450 return yards on 21 attempts, averaging 21.4 yards per return, which was the seventh-leading mark in the conference.

James Lowery | Kicker/Punter | Redshirt Senior

Lowery was the second most accurate placekicker in the Big South-OVC, though the “leader” only attempted, and converted a single kick, connecting on 80% (12-15) of his kicks. The First Team All-Conference performer also led the Tigers in points scored with 64.
