Tennessee State Lady Tigers come up short against Little Rock, 64-57

NASHVILLE – Erica Haynes-OvertonGia Adams, and Saniah Parker combined to score 43 of Tennessee State’s 57 total points, but the Lady Tigers fell to the Little Rock Trojans 64-57 at home Saturday.

Haynes-Overton led the Lady Tigers (5-8, 0-2) with 22 points and two steals. Adams added 11 points and three steals and Parker helped out with 10 points and two steals.

Tennessee State forced 22 Little Rock turnovers while committing 20 themselves in Saturday’s game. The Lady Tigers turned those takeaways into 21 points on the offensive end of the floor. Adams’ three steals led the way for Tennessee State.

How It Happened

Tennessee State started out the scoring by going on a 5-0 run, culminating in a three from Haynes-Overton, to take an early lead with 8:46 left in the first quarter. The Lady Tigers then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 13-10.

Little Rock kept adding to that lead, building a 19-12 advantage before Tennessee State went on a 7-0 run to tie the game at 19. Neither team was able to gain an edge by halftime, as the two squads entered the break tied at 27-27. Tennessee State forced eight Little Rock turnovers in the period and turned them into seven points.

After intermission, Little Rock snatched a 29-27 lead before Tennessee State answered back by going on a 5-0 run to grab a 32-29 lead with 7:01 to go in the third. Little Rock responded to seize a 47-40 lead entering the fourth quarter. Tennessee State turned five offensive rebounds into two second chance points on the way to scoring 13 total points in the quarter.

Tennessee State could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 64-57. Tennessee State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 10 of its 17 points in the paint.
