PINE BLUFF, Arkansas —Freshman Kayla Adams had everything working on Saturday, punching out 14 Alcorn St. hitters over seven innings of work to help lead the UAPB Lady Lions over the Lady Braves 6-2 Saturday afternoon at the Torii Hunter Softball Complex.

In addition to her 14 strikeouts, Adams tossed seven innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on three hits and walking none for UAPB.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lady Lions got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. UAPB picked up a pair of runs in the frame.

The Lady Braves failed to push any runs across before the Lady Lions offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. UAPB scored a run on an RBI triple off the bat of Jada Carhee, scoring Tyrah Elerby, which brought the score to 3-0 in favor of the Lady Lions.

Alcorn St. narrowed UAPB’s lead to 3-1 before the Lady Lions stretched the advantage to 5-1 in the third inning. Freshman Lauryn Adams’ run-scoring single highlighted a two-run output in the frame for the Lady Lions.

The Lady Braves gained ground, closing the gap to 5-2 until UAPB added some insurance in the fourth. The Lady Lions scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Amari Broughton, bringing the score to 6-2 in favor of UAPB. The score remained 6-2 for the rest of the game, as the Lady Lions coasted to the win.
