Warriors Hire Frank Vogel as Lead Assistant Coach, Adding Championship Experience to Steve Kerr’s Staff

The Golden State Warriors are strengthening Steve Kerr’s coaching staff by hiring Frank Vogel as the team’s lead (associate) assistant coach, according to league sources. Vogel spent the 2025-26 season as an assistant with the Dallas Mavericks after previously serving as a coaching consultant for the organization.

Vogel brings an extensive résumé to Golden State, highlighted by leading the Los Angeles Lakers to the 2020 NBA championship. Before his stint in Dallas, he served as head coach of the Indiana Pacers, Orlando Magic, Lakers, and Phoenix Suns, compiling a 480-422 career record and making eight playoff appearances as a head coach.

His arrival comes after the departures of veteran assistants Terry Stotts and Jerry Stackhouse, giving Kerr another experienced voice on the bench. Widely regarded as one of the league’s top defensive minds, Vogel is expected to play a key role in helping reshape Golden State’s defense while providing championship-level experience alongside Kerr.

The move signals the Warriors’ commitment to surrounding their core with proven coaching talent as they look to return to championship contention next season.
