To say it was a rough afternoon on the diamond for the Albany State University baseball against Shorter University would be putting it mildly.
How rough was it – the Golden Rams were down 9-0 after the first inning. Three of the runs came on bases loaded walks. The next run was scored on ASU infilled error and Norman Leon’s bases clearing down the left field line scored three more. The final two runs of the opening inning came on Jacob Pajer’s two-run homer.
The Hawks would plate three more in the fifth. Two runs came off a Pajer infield single and the third was via another bases loaded walk.
In the sixth Shorter would tack on two more runs.
The Rams avoided being no-hit, thanks to a double from freshman Tyler Wagner in the sixth inning.
The two teams will match up again Saturday at noon EST and 2:00 pm EST Sunday.
