Albany State baseball adds Luis Martinez to coaching staff

Luis Martinez recently joined the Golden Rams family after previously spending two years at Thomas University. Martinez is a native of Maracay, Venezuela and graduated from high school in 2012. Martinez came to the United States in 2015 where he attended ASA College- Miami. Coach Martinez holds many records at ASA with the most hits in a career (85), the most walks in a career (70). His on base percentage was second in a season and second in a career with .463. Also, during his tenure at ASA, Martinez’s fielding percentage was .970. In 2017, Martinez participated in the Florida Sophomore Junior College All-Stars game. 
 
Martinez continued his baseball career at Thomas University. Martinez holds the record of the most walks in a single season (47). In 2019, Martinez was a part of the Sun Conference Championship team and was selected to be in the Sun Conference All-Tournament team. He was named the Male Breakthrough Athlete of the Year by Thomas University in 2019 for his accomplishments.
 
Coach Hemmings stated this about the hire of Martinez,” When the position came open, I immediately thought about Luis!  He is a tireless worker and very knowledgeable about the game.  I am excited that he has joined our staff and cannot wait to get on the field with him and start developing our players this fall.  Luis will do an outstanding job with our infielders and baserunning along with assisting in recruiting and evaluating players.”
 
After completing his collegiate career, Martinez was appointed as a Graduate Assistant Baseball Coach at Thomas University where he directly oversaw the development of position players. Martinez also was a main contributor to Thomas University’s ranking as the number 8 high school recruiting class in NAIA of 2021. 
 
Martinez graduated from Thomas University in 2020 with a Bachelor of Business Administration and in 2022 with a Master of Business Administration. Currently, he resides in Thomasville, GA.
