The competitive portion of this game lasted about as long as the hang time of the opening kickoff, as the Albany State Golden Rams laid waste to Clark-Atlanta, 49-0.
ASU got right to work on their fist offensive drive, covering 75 yards in 13 plays that ended in a Marcuis Fulks 5- yard touchdown run. Fulks would find the end zone again with 0:45 left in the quarter, this one from 7-yards out to put the rains up 14-0. Albany State tacked on three more touchdowns in the second, both coming through the air via two Dionte Bonneau touchdown passes- a 20-yard toss to Javon Wooten, 8 yards to Kristian Grant and of 14-yards to Calvin Lewis right before the end of the half to put the Golden Rams up 35-0.
Two more scores in the fourth quarter, a 2-yard Tori Sapp and a 30-yard strike from Cameron Hopkins to Tabious Clemons, that would mercifully, for Clark-Atlanta, bring the scoring to a close at 49-0.
A few of the highlights, or lowlights from the CAU point-of-view:
• ASU scored at least 14 points in each quarter except the scoreless third
• The fourth quarter touchdown pass by Cameron Hopkins was the only one this season not thrown by Bonneau
• Albany State got a season-high five sacks against CAU
• ASU averaged over 10 yards per catch
• ASU ran 39 rushing plays and 28 passing plays
Albany State next heads to Fairfield, AL on October 2 to take on the Bears of Miles in a rematch of the 2019 SIAC title game, in which Miles was victorious, 21-6. Kickoff for this game is 6:00 pm CST.
Clark-Atlanta must pick itself up and get ready for its matchup against Tuskegee October 2. Kickoff is set at 1 pm CST.
