Albany State Softball adds Daniel Grimes as Assistant Coach

Coach Grimes comes to Albany State University after serving as an assistant football, baseball, softball, and head coach of wrestling at Mitchell County High School.  Coach Grimes assisted with taking Mitchell County football team to a 10-2 record and Region Champions in 2019.  Coach Grimes was instrumental in the team reaching the 3rd round of the state playoffs in 2019 and 2020. 

“I am honored to be given the opportunity to serve under Coach Bryant as assistant softball coach. I am looking forward to gaining the knowledge and experience serving under Coach Bryant while carrying on the winning tradition at ASU;” said Daniels. 

Daniel Grimes is retired military with multiple deployments in Afghanistan and Iraq.  During his time in the military, he served with Rangers and the 82nd Airborne Division.  While serving, he was an Airborne Instructor, Close combat instructor and hand to hand combat instructor.  After retirement, Coach Grimes found his 2nd calling helping kids in the classroom and on the field.  

Daniel is a native of Colquitt, Georgia. Daniel and his wife Naomi have two sons (Vann and Grayson), three daughters (Ami, Charley, and Cheyanne).
