Ashley Robinson Named Texas Southern Vice President and Director of Athletics

HOUSTON — Texas Southern University has officially approved Ashley Robinson as its next Vice President and Director of Athletics, marking the beginning of a new era for the Tigers’ athletic department.

The Texas Southern Board of Regents approved Robinson’s appointment Wednesday, bringing the veteran HBCU athletics administrator to Houston after an eight-year tenure at Jackson State.

Robinson leaves Jackson State after helping establish the Tigers as one of the most prominent athletic programs in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. His tenure included the hiring of former JSU football coach Deion Sanders and women’s basketball coach Tomekia Reed, among other significant moves.

Now, Robinson takes over a Texas Southern program facing its own pivotal moment.

His arrival comes as the Tigers work to strengthen their athletic department, with Robinson expected to bring his experience navigating the HBCU landscape, fundraising, hiring, branding and conference-level competition.

The move also adds another significant chapter to Robinson’s career in HBCU athletics.

At Jackson State, Robinson helped oversee the department during a period of unprecedented national attention, including Sanders’ highly publicized tenure and the Tigers’ rise as a national HBCU sports brand.

Robinson now inherits the responsibility of continuing that momentum at Texas Southern.

Ashley Robinson is headed to Houston.

And Texas Southern is betting that his experience can help push the Tigers to their next level.
