Norfolk State’s Gabrielle Gilbert named MEAC Rookie of the Week

Courtesy of Alex Lehmbeck, Asst SID, Norfolk State Athletics orfolk State freshman Gabrielle Gilbert has been named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Monday afternoon. The award marks Gilbert’s sixth MEAC recognition this regular season, and fifth Rookie of the Week honor. The accolade comes after a strong performance against Howard on Friday, pacing the Spartans in kills (10), digs (9), and service aces (4). She added two blocks as well.

Prairie View employee killed in on-campus shooting

The joyous and inquisitive nature of a college campus was shattered by gunshots. At approximately 9:30 A.M. Monday morning a Prairie View A&M campus employee was shot and killed by a former employee at the school’s Governor Bill and Vara Daniel Farm and Ranch. The suspect was soon thereafter detained and , thankfully, no students were harmed, according to a statement issued by the university.
