Denver Nuggets break off head coach Michael Malone
In a stunning move the Denver Nuggets have fired head coach Michael Malone and general manager Calvin Booth, per reporting from Shams Charania of ESPN. Malone was hired as Nugget’s head coach in 2015 and oversaw the team’s ascension, culminating in an NBA championship in 2023. Via James Herbert, CBS Sports Jamal Murray and the Denver Nuggets have agreed to a four-year, $208 million contract extension, his agents, Jeff Schwartz and Mike George, told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Saturday. This is the richest extension the Nuggets could offer Murray. It will kick in during the 2025-26 season and keep him under contract through 2028-29. Murray, 27, has spent his entire career with the Nuggets since they drafted him No. 7 overall in 2016. Last season, he averaged 21.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 6.5 assists in 59 regular-season games.

Per Shams Charania of The Athletic, Westbrook and the Denver Nuggets have agreed to a two-year, $6.8 million deal. Westbrook was dealt to the Utah Jazz on July 18 but was waived two days later. His move to Denver had been reported since the initial deal that allowed the LA Clippers to work a sign-and-trade deal with the Jazz to acquire guard Kris Dunn.
