Tennessee State stays perfect after Tampa Classic win

Although the Tennessee State and Florida A&M have met as recently as 2015, Saturday’s meeting in the inaugural Tampa Classic was a reprisal of their series in a Classic game that last happened in 2010 in the Atlanta Classic. A 6-play, 50-yard TSU first quarter drive proved fruitless, as it ended in fumble on the FAMU 33 yard line. Tennessee State would score on a subsequent possession on a 49-yard Lane Clark field goal to put the Tigers up 3-0. Florida A&M would score to start the second quarter on…

For the Golden Rams of Albany State University, the defense lead the way to their first victory over Tuskegee University in seven years. The Rams' defense held the Golden Tigers' offense to two first downs (you read that correctly, 2 first downs) on the day. The Tuskegee offense only managed 27 plays, had possession of the football for just 16:04 and only tallied a paltry 119 yards of total offense. Conversely, Albany State racked up 462 yards of offense, ran 68 offensive plays and held the football for 43:56. Tuskeegee's…

Albany State opens season with victory over Valdosta State

Saturday's matchup between Albany State and Valdosta State is the 19th time the two schools have met. Valdosta State has dominated the series, compiling a 17-1 record. The Blazers of VSU also rolled into Albany sporting a number 11 ranking in the American Football Coaches Association poll. The Golden Rams defense got things going two and a half minutes in when ASU's Nick Scott intercepted an Adam Robles pass and took it 75 yards to the house. A Gabriel Ballinas 22 yard field goal put Albany State up 10-0. After…

FAMU kicks off season with win over Texas Southern in inaugural Jake Gaithersburg Classic

FANU used a combination of solid quarterback play from Ryan Stanley and stout defense in a dominating win over Texas Southern in the inagural Jake Gaithersburg classic. Stanley went 19-32 for 217 yards, one touchdown through the air and another on the ground and no interceptions. Stanley's rushing TD got the scoring going and that was followed by 25 yard touchdown scamper by FAMU running back Devin Bowers and the Rattlers would not look back from there. A 36-yard scoring strike from Stanley to Brandon Norwood sealed the deal early…

The Tar Heels now join Michigan as the second collegiate football program to don the iconic Jumpman logo. I am extremely proud in terms…

Post Game Apologies for Blown Calls are an Insult

The closing stages of the January 21st game between the Chicago Bulls and the Sacramento Kings caused the league to have to issue a post game statement regarding the events of the contest. To clarify what happened, with under a minute to go in a game tied at 99, Dwyane Wade steals the ball from Garrett Temple, he soars in for a dunk, which he missed. Demarcus Cousins was near Wade as the swooped in for the attempted dunk, but didn’t make contact with him( I am making more contact…

Joe Mixon: Another Case of Biased Media Reporting

Unprovoked violence against anyone, regardless of sex, is wrong. No one has the right to put their hands on another person in an aggressive fashion. The recent footage that was released (somehow I find the timing odd to say the least) of the altercation University of Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon had with fellow student Amelia Molitor is very telling. Terming the media’s, and particularly the sports media’s, coverage of this story as irresponsible would be giving them an underserved courtesy.  Every news outlet leads with some variation of Mixon…

De’Andre Johnson Should Get A Second Chance

It came as little shock when last week former Alabama OC Lane Kiffin rejoined the ranks of collegiate Head Coaches. What was a bit of a surprise that he did not land at Oregon, LSU, or even Houston( Kiffin’s name had been tossed around as a possible candidate for all of those positions), but at Florida Atlantic University.  One of Kiffin’s initial signees was quarterback De’Andre Johnson. The name may be familiar to Florida State fans- Johnson was summarily dismissed from the Seminole football team following an altercation with a…
