The preseason accolades keep piling up for Howard University defensive back Kenny Gallop Jr.
Already previously named to four preseason All-America teams, the senior defensive back was named to the Phil Steele FCS Preseason All-America Team. The 2023 Aenea Williams Award winner was instrumental component of the MEAC’s second-best defense , a unit that surrendered 22.3 points per game, and helped the Bison secure their seecond consecutive MEAC title and their first ever berth in the Celebration Bowl.
Last season Gallop recorded 65 total tackles (42 solos) with 6 tackles for loss, 3 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles and 2 quarterback hurries.
Thirteen other Howard players were named to spots on Steele’s various preseason all-conference teams. In addition to Gallop, Darius Fox (Washington); Kasey Hawthorne (Sebring, Fla.); Terrance Hollon (Cleveland); Jarett Hunter (Mineral, Va.); Eden James (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) and Jamel Stewart (Richmond, Va.) were named to the First team.
Carson Hinton (Detroit); Richie Ilarraza (Clearwater, Fla.); Noah Miles (Tampa, Fla.), and Dylan West (Akron, Ohio) earned second-team honors, while Tim Artis Jr. (Charlotte, N.C.) and senior defensive back Robert Jones III (Fairwood, Md.)
