Los Angeles Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard has withdrawn from the US Olympic team, USA Basketball announced Wednesday morning, per The Athletic’’s Shams Charania.
Leonard has been dealing with chronic soreness and inflammation for the past few months. Boston Celtics forward Derrick White has been selected to replace Leonard. White, 30, is a versatile defender who is a more than capable three-point shooter.
White will accompany the team when they travel to Abu Dhabi, where they will practice and play this week.
The team is set to take on Canada in the USA Showcase tonight against Canada. Tip off is scheduled for 8:30 pm EST.
