The Greek national team was once again without Giannis Antetokounmpo , who was a last-minute scratch due to back issue, but it was another Antetokounmpo, brother Kostas who lead the team ,with 19 points and 13 rebounds, to 89-80 win over Turkey that netted them the 31st International Tournament Acropolis Aegean.
Tyler Dorsey put in 16 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds and a steal. Thanasis Antetokounmpo chipped in with 8 points.
Furkan Korkmaz’s 22 points and 10 rebound performance were not enough to put Turkey over the hump. Cedi Osman of the Cleveland Cavaliers scored 17 points and the Houston Rockets’ Alperen Sengun contributed 10 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists.
For Greece the 2023 World Cup Qualifiers are up next; the team will make a trip to take on Serbia and return home to host Belgium next week in Group I play. Shortly thereafter in early September Eurobasket Group C play will take place where the team will take on Estonia, Croatia, Italy, Great Britain and Ukraine.
For Turkey, they will take part in World Cup Qualifiers Group I; they will hit the road to take on Latvia and then host Serbia. In Group A preliminary round of Eurobasket Turkey is set to match up with Bulgaria, Montenegro, Belgium, Spain, and host nation Georgia.
