Tragedy has unfortunately touched Livingston College.
Monday, Eric Henderson a member of the Livingstone basketball team was killed in a car accident.
According to WRAL.com, Henderson was killed in a two-car collision that involved a an off-duty Cumberland County sheriff’s deputy.was travelling west on Highway 13 in Cumberland County , heading back to school, when his car crossed the center line and collided head-on with a pickup truck driven by an off-duty sheriff’s deputy. Officials have indicated that speed may have been a factor in the crash.
Henderson was a academically a sophomore but aa freshman on the men’s basketball team He was also an honor’s student that resided in the Honor’s Residence Hall.
A news release from the College, in part , contains these words from President Anthony Davis:
“Livingstone College is deeply saddened by the passing of one of its own,” . “Our thoughts of comfort and peace during this difficult time is extended to Eric’s family, friends, teammates and college family.”..“I understand Eric was well-mannered, a hard worker and always smiling and upbeat. May the memory of who he was bring some comfort to those who loved and knew him.”

Basketball coach James Stinson also had these words about Eric:
He wanted to be at Livingstone College,” basketball coach James Stinson said. “He took pride in being a Blue Bear. He was willing to sacrifice to make sure everyone else was OK. He was the ultimate student-athlete.”
Henderson, a native of Virginia Beach, VA was the great-nephew of Livingstone’s facility president, the Reverend Doctor Johnnie P. Henderson.
