Miles College defeats Albany State 21-6 in SIAC Title Game

ALBANY, Ga.- The Miles College Golden Bears captured the 2019 SIAC Football Championship with a 21-6 victory over Albany State University Saturday afternoon at the ASU Coliseum.

With the victory, Miles snaps the Rams’ win streak at two games and wraps the 2019 season at 7-4 overall.

The game was a slow start for both teams they both finished the first quarter not adding points on the board.  Golden Bears offense came alive as they scored in each remaining quarter. Miles finished the day with 283 yards of total offense including 229 yards rushing courtesy of Donte Edwards. Quarterback Daniel Smith connected on eight of 13 attempts.

Kelias Williams ended the game as the Rams’ top offensive performer with 59 yards and connected on seven of 24 attempts and one passing touchdown.  Defensively ASU’s Stephan Pierre led all performers with a game high 12 tackles.

Miles College got on the scoreboard first in the second quarter as Donte Edwards found the end zone on a one-yard run with 0:11 second left for the Golden Bears to take a 7-0 lead at the half.

Leading 7-0 at the intermission, The Golden Bears added another rushing touchdown of the game in the third quarter; Edwards found the end zone for his second touchdown of the contest on a seven-yard run at the 9:06 mark.
After being held scoreless for the entirety of the third stanza, the Golden Rams only score of the contest came when Kelias Williamsfound Ralph Lovett with a 17-yard touchdown pass with 14:50 to go. 

The Bears orchestrated six-play fourth quarter drive that consumed just over two minutes and ended with a 10-yard run with 3:08 remaining to cruise to a 21-6 victory.
