A bizarre incident briefly interrupted Tuesday night’s WNBA matchup between the Phoenix Mercury and Washington Mystics.
During the game at Mortgage Matchup Center in Phoenix, a sex toy was thrown onto the court, prompting officials to pause play.
The object was quickly covered and removed from the playing area, while the individual who allegedly threw it was escorted out of the arena, according to Sports360AZ’s Eliav Gabay.
The incident comes amid growing concerns surrounding fans throwing objects onto WNBA courts. A similar situation occurred during the Chicago Sky’s recent game against the Golden State Valkyries.
The disruption was ultimately a brief interruption in a game the Mystics won 94-84. Washington was led by Sonia Citron’s 19 points, while Kiki Iriafen recorded 18 points and 10 rebounds. Phoenix received 19 points apiece from Natasha Mack and Kahleah Copper.
