October 12,2022 SWAC Volleyball Players of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Jackson State’s Alexis Williams, Bethune-Cookman’s Adriana Marrero and Alisha Callender, along with Alabama State’s Brooke Adams for SWAC Volleyball Weekly Honors for their phenomenal performances during the past weekend of conference play.

Offensive Player

Williams began the weekend with 10 kills and two aces in a win against Southern, 3-0. She continued to be a force as she recorded 17 kills along with three blocks in a victory against Texas Southern, 3-1. To close the weekend, Williams recorded her tenth double-double of the season in a victory against Alcorn State, 3-0. She registered 14 kills and 10 digs against the Lady Braves. Williams is currently ranked fourth in the league in kills (203), aces (22), and points (232).

Defensive Player of the Week

Marrero helped the Lady Wildcats earn key wins in conference play over the weekend as the team went 3-0 at the SWAC Volleyball event hosted by Alabama State. Marrero registered 39 digs to help keep the Lady Wildcats in matches against Alcorn State (16 digs), Texas Southern (14 digs), and Southern (9 digs).

Setter of the Week

Callender registered 91 assists to help the Lady Wildcats earn key wins in conference play over the weekend as the team went 3-0 at the SWAC Volleyball event hosted by Alabama State. Over the weekend she played a significant role in helping B-CU compete in the matches against Alcorn State (25 digs), Texas Southern (40 digs), and Southern (26 digs).



Newcomer of the Week

Adams registered 43 assists as the Lady Hornets went 3-0 during league competition this past weekend. She had a season-high of 23 assists against Southern, while contributing nine assists against Alcorn State, and 11 assists against Texas Southern. In addition, she had nine aces to close out the weekend against Southern.
