Courtesy of Shaw AthleticsSALEM, Va. (Oct. 27) – Michelle Blahacaptured her second straight conference crown and Thea Schillaci placed second for Shaw University at the 2022 CIAA Women’s 5K Cross Country Championship race on the Green Hill Park course Thursday.
Shaw, led by the speedy duo, claimed the third-place trophy in the team standings. The Lady Bears scored 63 points, just one point behind second-place Virginia State.
Blaha crossed the finish line in 19:04.4, shaving more than a minute off last year’s time when she took home the 2021 CIAA individual title. Schillaci was right behind Blaha with a time of 19:05.8.
Blaha and Schillaci, along with Dana Moreno of Shaw, were selected to the All-CIAA team for finishing among the top 15 runners. Moreno was 12th with a time of 20:38.2.
Joyce Kiptum placed 24th in 21:40.6 and Ana Schardong was 27th in 22:17.8. Rhianna Smith finished 28th in 22:21.1 and Florence Wreh placed 41st in 24:31.6.
Overall, sixty-six (66) participants ran in the women’s championship meet. The individual results are on the CIAA website (theciaa.com).
