SIAC Basketball Week 2 Honorees

ATLANTA, Ga. (November 26, 2019) – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) has announced its Men and Women Basketball Players of the Week.

For women, Shanassia White (Benedict) was named Player of the Week, while teammate, Wykira Johnson-Kelly (Benedict) earned Newcomer of the Week for the second time.

For men, Jordan Little (Kentucky State) was named Player of the Week, while Darweshi Hunter (Central State) earned Newcomer of the Week for the second consecutive week, released by the league office on Tuesday.

Women’s Basketball

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Shanassia White, Benedict
Forward  |  Junior  |  St. Mathews, S.C.

In Benedict’s only game last week, White had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds as No. 25 Benedict defeated Lynn, 65-53. 

NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK– Wykira Johnson-Kelly, Benedict
Guard  |  Sophomore  |  Franklinville, N.J.

In Benedict’s only game of the week, Johnson-Kelly led the Lady Tigers with 20 points shooting 7-of-11 from the field. The sophomore guard made 3-of-4 3-pointers and added five rebounds and a blocked shot in the Lady Tigers’ win over Lynn.

Men’s Basketball

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Jordan Little, Kentucky State

Little was dominant for the Thorobreds in Friday’s game against Tiffin scoring 34 points with 10 rebounds on 16-of-23 shooting (.695). The senior forward finished the week averaging 21 points and seven rebounds. 

NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK – Darweshi Hunter, Central State
Guard  |  Freshman  |  Cincinnati, Ohio

Central State freshman Darweshi Hunter led CSU to wins over Urbana and Goshen last week. ? ? Against Urbana, Hunter was 5-of-10 from the field for 16 points while collecting six rebounds. On Saturday against Goshen, Hunter scored a season-high 25 points along with five assists, five rebounds and three steals. In addition, Hunter also finished with a game-high 17 points in Wednesday’s exhibition at Miami (Ohio). ? ? In his first month wearing the maroon and gold, Hunter leads the team in scoring with 19.4 points and tied for the team lead with 5.8 rebounds. He is converting over 50% of his shot attempts including 48% from three-point range.
