Allen University XC receives team award, more than 6 dozen athletes earned Conference All-Academic Honours

Courtesy of the SIAC  The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference recognized 1,127 student-athletes for their academic excellence Wednesday, including 76 student-athletes from Allen University. Among the highlights, Allen’s Women’s Cross Country team was awarded the SIAC’s Team Award for posting a 3.37 cumulative grade point average as a team, the highest among their SIAC foes.  The SIAC Commissioner’s All-Academic Team features student-athletes who earned a 3.2 or better cumulative grade point average for the past academic year. Alabama A&M women’s hoops recipient of sizablele donation

 The Alabama A&M women’s basketball program received a large donation as the Center for Rural Enterprise and Environmental Justice (CREEJ) donated a golf cart on Tuesday morning at the AAMU Event Center. “We have a walking campus,” Thornton said about the much-needed gift. “This golf cart will allow us to transport recruits, alumni and potential donors who come to visit our amazing campus. Former Norfolk State women’s assistant coach named AD at Jackson State CC(TN)

Former Norfolk State assistant basketball coach Dr. Kelvin Lynum is taking on a new role as he was named the athletic director at Jackson State Community College (TN.)  Dr. Lynum spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach on Larry Vickers’s staff where his contributions helped the program compile a 53-13 overall record, 24-4 within the MEAC, winning back-to-back conference tournaments and NCAA appearances.  Before his time at NSU, he was the athletic director at Southeast High School in Bradenton, FL from 2020-22. Former Johnson C. Hue Jackson is back in college football

The former Grambling coach was named the Assistant General Manager ( Recruiting Operations Coordinator ) at Georgia State University.  Jackson was most recently the head coach at Grambling State. Despite improving a lot of the Tigers from 3-8 in his first campaign to 5-6 in his second, he was still shown the door, in a surprising development, following a 27-22 loss to Southern in the Bayou Classic.  Before taking the Grambling job, Jackson served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach on Eddie George’s staff at Tennessee State.  His coaching career…

Two-time SWAC DPOY Angel Jackson signs with Italian team

The career of Angel Jackson will continue across the pond.  Former Jackson State center signed a contract with Italian team Faenza Women’s Basketball. Faenza competes in Serie A, Lega Basket Femminile, which is Italy’s premier women’s basketball league.   Faenza ended the 2023-24 campaign with a 6-21 record.  Jackson started her collegiates career at USC before transferring to Jackson State for her final two amateur seasons. Wizards send F Deni Avdija to Blazers in front of draft

The NBA Draft is set to begin later this evening, but the Washington Wizards didn’t wait until the festivities began to make a move. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, and others, the Wizards have traded forward Deni Avdija to Th Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for Malcolm Brogdon, the 14th overall pick in tonight’s Draft and a 2029 pick.
