SWAC Announces Attendees for 2024 Football Media Day

Tennessee State unveils Hockey Sweaters

Albany State Athletics recipient of two D-II grants

title image via Albany State Athletics The Albany State University Athletic Department will be the recipient of the NCAA Division II Coaching Enhancement Grant and the NCAA Division II Ethnic Minorities and Women’s Internship Grant. The former allocates NCAA funding for the creation of new, full-time assistant coaching positions at NCAA D-II member institutions and also is purposed to foster access, recruitment, and selection and to help ensure the long-term success of ethnic minorities and women. The Norfolk State sprinter who ,despite running the third fasted tine in the country in the 100m with a 10.05, will not be allowed to compete for a spot on the national team at the National trials this weekend due to the MEAC not sanctioning their championship track meet. SWAC extends contract of Commissioner Dr. Charles McClelland through 2032

Courtesy of the Southwestern Athletic Conference The Southwestern Athletic Conference Councilof Presidents and Chancellors has unanimously approved a contract extension for SWAC Commissioner Dr. Charles McClelland. The extension which will run through 2032 academic year, wasannounced on Friday afternoon. “Over the course of the past five years the SouthwesternAthletic Conference has made significant strides towards becoming one of the most widely recognized and visibleathletic conferences in the country,” said SWAC Council of Presidents and Chancellors Chairman Quinton T. Ross Jr., Ed.D. “The visionary and dynamic leadership of CommissionerMcClelland has helped propel our conference to prominence on a national stage while also increasing the availability of financial resources that have positively impacted the overall student-athlete experience. We are undoubtedly excited about the continued upward trajectory of our league under his leadership.” McClelland was named the sixth commissioner of the SWACduring the summer of 2018. Since that time the league has significantly increased its visibility and presence on a nationalstage through the broadcasting of conference football and basketball games on ESPN and HBCUGO platforms. Ahmad “Rod” White named Dillard University baseball coach

Ahmad “Rod” White was named the head baseball coach at Dillard University, having the interim tag removed from his title.  White assumed the interim role following the hmm departure of Trennis Grant, the first coach in program history in April. Grant accepted the head coach position at Clark Atlanta University earlier this week.  Coach White led the team to a 12-4 mark over their last 16 contests, en route to finishing the season 20-27.  White has over 13 years of coaching and scouting experience.

Alcorn could be looking at former Stephen F. Austin baseball coach

According to Michael Coker of blackcollegenines.com, Alcorn State is considering hiring former Stephen F. Austin coach Johnny Cardenas as its head baseball coach to replace Reggie Williams, who was shown the door after three seasons. After 16 seasons at the helm of the Stephen F. Austin baseball program, Coach Cardenas announced his retirement, which is to take effect on 31 July 2024. In his time leading Lumberjacks baseball, he recorded three 30+ win seasons.
