Game 1 of the highly anticipated matchup between the Warriors and the Cavaliers is in the books. The Warriors smacked the Cavaliers 104-89. While the vaunted Golden State backcourt was relatively quiet, going a combined 8-27 for 20 points, 11 from Curry and 9 from Thompson, was their bench that came up big scoring 45 points. Sean Livingston accounted for 20 of them on what seemed to a never ending hail of midrange jumpers. The Cavaliers’ big three of James, Irving and Love went 23-60 for 66 points. J.R. Smith…

Today at Finals practice Lebron went into the way back machine and broke out a pair of Zoom Generations. That in and of itself would be enough to draw the attention of sneaker enthusiast, but these were not the run of mill vintage Generations, rather one of the rarest versions of the shoe, the ROY PE. This special makeup done by Nike to commemorate Lebron’s 2003-04 Rookie-of-the-year campaign, features an all-white upper; the “LBJ23” logo has been turned to read “ROY 0304”. There is also custom “20.5.5” along the medial…

As we continue our countdown of our favorite Mamba moments, this segment focused, actually by sheer happenstance, on non- NBA regular season moments. Enjoy 18. His appearance at the Drew League During the lockout that cancelled the preseason and compressed the 2011-12 season to 66 games, it wasn’t unusual to see many top NBA guys in summer leagues across the country. Lebron, Carmelo, CP3, Wade, KD and many others took to th summer circuit to stay as sharp as possible. Kobe made a semi-surprise appearance at the Drew League…

28. Kobe’s sneaker free agency After his departure from Adidas, Kobe came into the 2002-03 season sans a shoe deal. What ensued was an awesome season long sneaker smorgasbord. As he destroyed cats that season,Bryant rocked Nike, Jordan Brand, Reebok, as well as And1, just to name a few. I’m not sore if we will ever see such sneaker variety from a player of his caliber, but it was fun because you never knew what we was going to wear from game to game 27. Surpassing 31,000…

After being on the receiving end of two beat downs from the world champion Golden State Warriors, not people thinking the Rockets can even be competitive with the Warriors, much less win a game. Well, it appears the graphics department at TNT feels that way. After the Spurs throttled the Memphis Grizzlies again, this time to the tune of 94-68, TNT showed a graphic for the remaining games in the Rockets/Warriors series which listed games 5,6,7 as “not necessary.” Based on what I’ve seen through the first two games of…
Read MoreKobe: End of a Career; End of an Era
I met Kobe Bryant’s last game with a mixture of anticipation and sports sadness. Anticipation because I was curious about how Kobe would perform in his swan song; the sports sadness stems, selfishly, from the basketball fan in me not wanting to see an all-time great hang them up. It is also in knowing that his retirement marked the end of era, as Kobe brought an old school mentality and competitiveness that will be sorely missed in today’s NBA. When he missed his first five shots’, I started thinking…
Read MoreDavid Blatt whacked as Cavaliers HC
Apparently going to the NBA finals in your first season and being first in the Eastern Conference in your second season does little in the way of job security. Ask David Blatt who, amongst his many coaching achievements ,can now add former head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Blatt was shown the door today despite the success, amid reports of growing unrest in the Cavaliers’ locker room ( I wonder who could be the source of that?). Speaking through his agency, Priority Sports”, Blatt had this to say: “I’d like…
