Moton’s late game bucket lifts Grambling 68-66 over Bethune-Cookman

From Grambling State Athletic Communications Tra’Michael Moton drained a jumper with one second remaining as the Grambling State University men’s basketball team edged Bethune-Cookman, 68-66, on Saturday afternoon in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) game at the Moore Gymnasium.   Grambling State (4-11 overall, 2-1 SWAC) led by as many as 11 points with 2:20 remaining, but Bethune-Cookman rallied and tied the game at 66 after a pair of free throws by Joe French with 23 seconds left.  That set the stage for Moton, who hit the game-winner jumper with 1 second left…

COVID-19 causes changes to SWAC Basketball games

From the Southwestern Athletic Conference: The men’s basketball game scheduled between Prairie View A&M and Grambling State slated to be played on Monday, January 3 has been canceled due to COVID-19 protocols with the PVAMU program. The men’s basketball game scheduled between Alcorn State and Jackson State slated to be played on Monday, January 3 has been rescheduled for Wednesday, January 5. These actions follow the guidelines and protocols set forth by the league and its Sports Administrators Committee and COVID-19 Advisory Committee.

From the Southwestern Athletic Conference BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Alabama State’s Tyesha Rudolph and Grambling State’s Alexus Holt for SWAC Women’s Basketball Weekly Honors for their outstanding performances during non-conference play this past week. Player of the WeekRudolph was a key contributor for Alabama State against North Carolina scoring 22 of the Lady Hornets 47 points. She also tallied an assist while grabbing three rebounds. There were three games scheduled for Wednesday’s Southwestern Athletic Conference women’s hoops action , but only one actually got take the court, with the Alabama A&M /Nicholls State and Alcorn State’s matchup with Texas both being cancelled due to the perniciousness of COVID-19. Grambling was the only SWAC team that remained in action and the Lady Tigers defeated New Orleans 61-49, to bring them to 3-8 on the season. Jackson State v Southeastern Baptist men’s hoops game cancelled

COVID-19 has claimed year another HBCU’s basketball game, the latest being Jackson State’s home opener against Southeastern Baptist, which was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon. This is the second consecutive contest that have been cancelled for the Tigers, their December 21 tilt against Stephen F. Austin cancelled for the same reason. Despite the setback, the JSU men’s hoops( 2-9) team is expectant to resume action when they tip-off Southwestern Athletic Conference play Monday, January 3 against the Tigers of Bethune-Cookman.

Florida A&M v Illinois game cancelled

In shade resembling that awful flustercuck that was the year 2020, colleges basketball games are being cancelled. The Florida A&M men’s hoops teams were set to take on the Fighting Illinois of he University of Illinois, but due to COVID-19 issues within the Illini program, the contest was cancelled. Per Famu Athletics, the next game tips off SWAC play Monday January 3, 2022 when the Rattlers head to Daytona to take on the Wildcats of Bethune.
