Tennessee State Lady Tigers pull upset in season finale over UT Martin

CIAA Women’s Tournament : Claflin defeats Virginia State 56-42 to advance to semis

Courtesy of the CIAA Claflin (17–8, 12–5 CIAA) put together one of its most complete defensive performances of the season on Thursday afternoon, shutting down Virginia State (17–8, 11–5 CIAA) in a decisive 56–42 victory in the CIAA Women’s Basketball Tournament quarterfinals at CFG Bank Arena. The Panthers were powered by a breakout showing from Food Lion Player of the Game Tyra Floyd, whose 16 points and four three-pointers fueled Claflin’s wire-to-wire win. Tennessee State’s upset bid comes up short against Lindenwood

The Tennessee State Lady Tigers gave the number two team in the Ohio Valley Conference all they wanted but unfortunately for the Tigers, their upset bid came up short as the Lady Lions defeated the Lady Tigers 75 to 70.  Taking advantage of Lindenwood’s sluggish start Tennessee State was able to jump out to a 9 to 4 lead at the five-minute 27-second mark of the opening quarter. It was a rough day at the office for the Tennessee State Lady Tigers, who were soundly beaten 79-53 at the end of Morehead State Saturday afternoon. SIUE separated early from the Lady Tigers, built what proved to be an insurmountable lead, and cruised to a comfortable 63-41 win Thursday evening. The Cougars blew the game open in the second quarter in which they outscored the Lady Tigers 28-7. This was the first of two quarters in which TSU scored a combined 14 points on 6-29 shooting.
