Tennessee State’s Monroe Beard named Big South-OVC Co-Defensive Player of the Week

Tennessee State linebacker Monroe Beard was named Big South-OVC Co-Defensive Player of the Week. Beard, a junior out of Chattaanooga, Tennessee, set the TSU single-gmae record for tackles, with 19 in the Tigers, 20-10 loss at UT Martin on Saturday. On the most recent Big South-OVC Football media call, Tennessee State head coach Eddie Eddie George was very complimentary of Beard, referring to him as “selfless”, “fiery” and some someone “who represents everything it is to be a Tennessee State Tiger.”

Beard leads the conference in tackles with 49 total tackles ( 28 solo, 21 assisted). This marks the second time in the last two games Tennessee State has played that a Tiger has garnered conference honours. Kicker James Lowery was named Special Teams Player of the Week in TSU’s last game, a 27-25 win over Gardner-Webb.
