This Saturday the Golden Rams of Albany State University host Edward Waters in what could be their last home game of the season. Albany State (4-3, 4-1) enters the content fresh off a 52-6 Homecoming destruction of Morehouse last week. ASU quarterback Isaiah Knowles completed 17-of-27 passes for 288 yards and a career-high 6 touchdowns. Javion Jackson hauled in 7 passes for season highs in both yards (149) and touchdowns (4). Tiant Wyche led all Golden Rams ball carriers with 96 yards on 12 attempts.
Edward Waters is amongst a trio of teams who are 1-6 and 1-4 in the SIAC, with only winless Allen shielding them from being the cellar of the SIAC. EWU is coming off a 27-20 defeat at the hands of Savannah State, which was their sixth straight loss on the season. Last season EWU broke through for the first time against Albany State, handing the Golden Rams a 31-27 defeat.
Prediction:
Edward Waters is the 9th most productive offense in the SIAC averaging 18.7 and 275.9 points per contest. The Tiger’s defense allows 30.4 points and 338.6 yards per game, marks that rank 8th and 6th respectively in the conference. There will be plenty of opportunities for Isaiah Knowles and the Albany State offense to move the ball both on the ground and through the air and on the ground.
Albany State will build a multiple-score lead and that will be too tall of a mountain for Edward Waters to ascend, as they only average 18.7 points per contest. Additionally, Waters’ limited offensive punch, as well as their propensity to turn the ball over, will severely inhibit their would-be comeback attempts.
EWU will compete but in the end, the Tigers will be outmanned and outgunned by the Golden Rams.
Final Score:
Albany State: 31
Edward Waters: 13
