According to Michael Coker of blackcollegenines.com, Alcorn State is considering hiring former Stephen F. Austin coach Johnny Cardenas as its head baseball coach to replace Reggie Williams, who was shown the door after three seasons. After 16 seasons at the helm of the Stephen F. Austin baseball program, Coach Cardenas announced his retirement, which is to take effect on 31 July 2024. In his time leading Lumberjacks baseball, he recorded three 30+ win seasons.
