New Mexico State suspends basketball season indefinitely in lieu of fresh set of allegations

Courtesy of Myron Medcalf, ESPN New Mexico State men’s basketball has canceled Saturday’s game at Cal Baptist and suspended its season indefinitely following “new allegations” within the program, according to a statement from the school. The new allegations have prompted an investigation by the school and led to the coaching staff being put on paid administrative leave, the statement said. The Aggies have been embroiled in controversy since November, when forward Mike Peake shot and killed a New Mexico student in self-defense in Albuquerque after he’d been lured to the campus. Via the Associated Press Maya Moore has officially decided to retire from playing basketball. The Minnesota Lynx great stepped away from the WNBA in 2019 to help her now-husband Jonathan Irons win his release from jail by getting his 50-year sentence overturned in 2020. After gaining his release, Irons married Moore soon after and the couple had their first child, Jonathan Jr., in July. To many, crypto.com arena will always be Staples Center, the house that the Utah Jazz ball in will forever be the Delta Center. On July 1, 2023 that shall be the case once more. Texas coach Chris Beard arrested on assault charges

Early Monday morning, Texas men’s basketball head coach Chris Beard was arrested and charged with assault on a family member. Police responded to a “disturbance-urgent” call at a 2:07 a.m Monday morning. According to the Travis County Sherriff’s Office website, Beard was booked at 4:18 am. A spokesperson for the Austin police told the Austin American-Statesman that Beard strangled someone at a home in Tarrytown, an Austin neighborhood.
