Alabama State 26, Tuskegee 20 (OT) The Alabama State had not defeated in-state Tuskegee in six years and as they trailed for most of the game, it appeared that the streak was headed to a seventh year. However when the Hornets’ quarterback Darryl Pearson, Jr. scored to tie the contest at 20 apiece with 5:09 remaining in the game. Tuskegee football player Jabari Bailey has career tragically ended

Jabari Bailey was set to head to Tuskegee this summer for camp and begin to actualize his dream of playing college football. Sadly that dream was ended when Bailey was helping a friend who car had malfunctioned, leaving him stranded on the side of the road. A car struck Bailey, pinning him between the two vehicles and severing his leg. The entire university is heartbroken for Jabari, his family and for all of us who know him. There are no words to describe how it felt to hear this terrible news.…

Albany State names Patrick Gayle as Men’s Basketball Coach

Albany State introduced Patrick Gayle as their new Men’s Basketball coach as a press conference earlier this week. Gayle comes to the Golden Rams after compiling a 125-51 record , two regular season conference championships and four NAIA tournament berths in six seasons as the head coach at Division II St. Thomas University. Last season he led St.Thomas to a 23-8 record and the Sun Conference regular season title. Gayle was also named the Sun Conference Coach of the Year. Of the nearly 600 students that received their degrees Saturday during Albany State University’s Fall Commencment, twenty-nine of them were student-athletes. Texas Southern defeats Alabama State in SWAC quarterfinals

Texas Southern’s on fire shooting in the second half to claim victory over Alabama State 90-76 and advance to the semifinals of the SWAC Men’s Basketball Tournamemt. The Tigers shot 65% from the floor in the deciding half and that proved to be too much for the Hornets. Claflin University wins 2018 Men’s Basketball Tournament

The Claflin University took the 2018 SIAC Men’s tournament crown by defeating Clark Atlanta University 69-61 in the championship game. It was a wire-to-wire win for Claflin, who jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the early going and never looked back, leading by as much as 13 in the first half. Clark-Atlanta comes from behind to beat Benedict in SIAC Semis

Clark-Atlanta rallied from 13 down to defeat Claflin and earn a spot Saturday’s SIAC championship game. Despite their All-Conference and All-American forward Brandon Morris picking up two early fouls, Benedict was able to build a ten-point halftime lead off the strength of blistering shoot from behind the arc. Benedict shot 8-15 from three-point range in the first half and shot 50% overall (14-28) from the floor. Claflin defeats Morehouse in SIAC Semis 77-69

The Claflin University Panthers can make a claim that no other team in the SIAC, or the nation can- they have defeated the Morehouse College team this season. The Fighting Maroon Tigers were 25-2 this season and Claflin is the “2” in that record. Albany State’s run in the SIAC tournament was brought to an end by Clark-Atlanta in 57-55 in their quarterfinal matchup. Albany State came out of the gate to take an 11-2 lead.
