Jackson State’s Jason Mercier declares for NFL Draft

Jason Mercier is the latest Jackson State footballer to either enter the transfer portal or declare for the NFL draft. The senior defensive line announced Sunday evening that he will now seek to make his NFL dreams a reality. This season, the Florida International transfer recorded 21 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks and a fumble recovery, as part of a defensive unit that, up until the Celebration Bowl, had not surrendered more than 24 points in any game this season. A graduate student tight end from Atlanta, Ga., Averett caught 39 passes for 445 and seven touchdowns, the third highest total in the SWAC this season.
