SIAC Announces Week 1 Football Players of the Week

Emanuel Wilson (Fort Valley State) was named Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Football Offensive Player of the Week, while Jalil Lenore (Central State) earned Defensive Player of the Week, released by the league office on Wednesday.

Gilbert Brown (Albany State) was also tabbed Special Teams Player of the Week alongside Kentrell Lawson (Fort Valley State) who earned Newcomer of the Week.

OFFENSIVE – Emanuel Wilson, Fort Valley State Running Back  |  R-Junior  |  Charlotte, N.C.

Wilson carried the Wildcats to victory over Tuskegee at the Red Tails Classic Sunday night. The RB amassed 262 yards on the ground on only 20 carries with two touchdowns for a 13.1 yard per carry average. In the middle of the 2nd Q, he ran for 17 yards before scoring from three yards to give FVSU a 14-0 lead. Leading 14-6 after a punt return penalty put the Wildcats at their own 13-yardline, Wilson took the handoff and ran straight up the middle of the Tuskegee defense 87 yards to paydirt to seal the victory with 11:24 left in the game. He also caught two passes for 12 yards for 274 yards of total offense.

DEFENSIVE – Jalil Lenore, Central State | Linebacker  |  Freshman  |  Chicago, IL

Jalil Lenore was named Defensive MVP of Sunday’s Black College Football Hall of Fame Classic. Lenore finished with 12 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble and a recovery in the 41-21 win over Winston-Salem State.

SPECIAL TEAMS – Gilbert Brown, Albany State | Punter  |  Freshman  |  Richmond Hill, GA

Gilbert Brown made his debut for the Golden Rams a memorable moment as he punted five times for 246 yards with an average of 49.2 yards per kick. Brown’s longest punt was an astonishing 65 yards. Brown had two kicks over 50 yards in a game where field position was one of the deciding factors in the outcome. Brown’s leg has emerged as another weapon for the Top 20 ranked Golden Rams.

NEWCOMER – Kentrell Lawson, Fort Valley State | Linebacker  |    Sophomore  |  Marianna, Fla.

In his first game for FVSU, Lawson made his presence felt with seven total tackles. He led a FVSU defense that held Tuskegee to only 209 yards on 61 plays with an interception, three sacks and seven tackles for loss of 20 yards while giving up only six points.
