The rivalry is back: Tennessee State and Jackson State to get it on in the John A. Merritt Classic

Tennessee State and Jackson State will renew football pleasantries in the 2026 John A. Merritt Classic on Saturday, August 29 at Nissan Stadium.  The Week 0 , matchup will mark the first time the TSU and JSU have met in the Merritt Classic. The two-storied program has been getting it on since 1949, but since 1990 has primarily met in the Southern Heritage Classic, taking part in 29 of the 36 games, with the last such matchup taking place on September 10, 2022, a 16-3 win for Jackson State. Next season Former Tennessee State linebacker will be terrorizing offenses in the Southwestern Athletic Conference as he announced Friday afternoon he was committing to Jackson State. Ahmad Miller commits to Syracuse

Former Jackson State running back Ahmad Miller is taking his talents to the ACC, as he has committed to Syracuse.  Miller led all SWAC running backs in yards (1,054), yards per carry (6.4), and yards per game (87.8). Miller topped the 100-yard mark five times on the season, with a high of 180 yards coming against Hampton on August 30. According to PFF, Miller forced 52 missed tackles and ran for 750 yards after contact.  Miller appeared in 25 games at Jackson State, rushing for 1,365 yards and 9 touchdowns…

Travis Terrell Jr enters the transfer portal

Jackson State running back Travis Terrell Jr will enter the transfer portal. He announced his intention via a social media post, describing the decision to enter the portal as “hard” but also a “personal/business decision for my, my family and my future.”  In his freshman season, Terrell ran for 459 yards and 4 touchdowns on 75 carries. Jackson State tabbed HBCU FCS Team of the Week.

Jackson State was named the HBCU FCS Team of the week. In the team’s most recent outing, Jackson State defeated Southern 38-13 in the BoomBox Classic, shutting out the Jags in the second half.  It was Jackson State’s seventh consecutive win over its Baton Rouge-based rivals. The Tigers also have been ranked No.1 in Dr. Cavil’s Inside the HBCU Sports Lab top 7 poll rankings for 11 consecutive weeks.

Jackson State’s Jacobian Morgan named HBCU National Player of the Week

Image via Jackson State Athletics For his gridiron exploits this weekend, Jackson State quarterback Jacobian Morgan was named the BOXTOROW National HBCU Player of the Week.  In the Tigers’ 38-13 win over Southern in the BoomBox Classic, the grad student had his most statistically prolific game of the year. Morgan completed 21 of 31 passes for 337 yards, 2 touchdowns, of 51 and 82 yards respectively, and no interceptions.  This season the Syracuse transfer has completed 50-of-88 passes for 615 yards, 2 touchdowns, and an interception.  Morgan will be highlighted on…
