CIAA News: Jada Byers named D2CCA Super Region 2 Offensive POTY

Courtesy of the CIAA CHARLOTTE, NC – The Division II Conference Commissioner’s Association (D2CCA) announced the 2022 All-Super Region Two football team Thursday afternoon with five players from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), the nation’s oldest historically Black athletic conference, being selected. Honorees from the CIAA were headlined by Virginia Union running back Jada Byers, who was chosen as the 2022 D2CCA Super Region Two Offensive Player of the Year. VUU’s Jada Byers named as finalist for Harlan Hill Award

Courtesy of the CIAA Virginia Union University’s Jada Byers has become the first VUU football player in the program’s history to be named a finalist for the Harlon Hill Award, it was announced on Thursday, December 1. Byers led the nation by rushing for a CIAA-record 1,829 yards and gathering nation-best 2,256 all purpose yards this past season. Tennessee State’s Mike Mitchell to enter NFL Draft

Tennessee State running back Mike Mitchell declared for the NFL draft. The Broheadsville, PA native announced his decision Wednesday afternoon. After playing at Brooklyn’s ASA College in 2018, Mitchell walked on the football team In 2019. He was redshirted that year, but fate was unkind to him as the 2020 season was lost due to a season-ending knee injury. Bethune-Cookman tight end Kemari Averett is seeking to ply his trade at the next level. The Atlanta, GA native made the announcement Wednesday afternoon in a social media post in which he expressed his gratitude to the university, teammates and coaches. Prior to coming to Bethune-Cookman, Averett spent two seasons at the University of Louisville, where he caught 15 passes for 144 yards and three touchdowns.
