For women, Iamunique Bowie (Spring Hill) was named Player of the Week, while Unique Miller (Albany State) earned Newcomer of the Week. For men, Malachi McCoy (Benedict) was named Player of the Week, alongside teammate, Tim Moore (Benedict) who earned Newcomer of the Week, released by the league office on Tuesday. Albany State faces Georgia Southwestern in home opener

Albany State falls to Florida A&M in OT, 70-65

Despite forcing 20 Rattlers turnovers , poor shooting and ball security issues of their own proved to be too much for Albany State to overcome as they were defeated 70-65 in overtime to Florida A&M Monday evening. The Golden Rams got off to a strong start against their D-1 foes, building an 9-point lead at 17-9 on Jamir Moore’s three pointer with 8:01 left in the opening half. Albany State basketball to take on FAMU in exhibition matchup

Monday the Albany State University men’s basketball is taking on Florida A&M in an exhibition game. The Golden Rams have stumbled out of the gates 0-4, getting boatraced by a combined 61 points in their first two games, which took place in the SIAC/Gulf South Challenge with an 80-50 loss to Mississippi College and an 87-56 beatdown courtesy of West Alabama. Albany State women’s hoops look to keep winning streak alive

The Albany State women’s basketball team will look to keep their winning ways going when they play host to Columbus State Saturday. After dropping their season opener 63-52 to Elizabeth City State, the Rams have won two straight, defeating Johnson C, Smith 74-71 and a surprising 68-60 win over Tuskegee. Senior Kashay Hankerson leads the team in scoring with 15.0 ppg. Juanisha Black is the squad’s other double figure scorer, putting up 13.3 points per game. Albany State to take part in “ATL Has Something to Say HBCU All-Stars Challenge”

This weekend will see the debut of the inaugural ATL Has Something to Say HBCU Challenge. The event will be held at Morehouse College, it will feature SIAC and CIAA teams squaring off as well as Atlanta public high schools taking each other on. The Challenge tips off with four games, starting at 1pm EST and Saturday, action tips off at 10 AM EST with Atlanta Public School play .
