The SWAC announced the dates for its 2025 Men’s and Women’s Basketball Media Day. Jackson State 17th in Stats Perform FCS Preseason Top 25 Poll

The Jackson State Tigers sit at no.17 in the Stats Perform FCS Preseason Top 25 rankings. JSU went 12-2, including 8-0 within the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Jackson State ended the season on a 10-game winning streak, which included winning the SWAC Championship and the HBCU national championship in the Celebration Bowl.  The Tigers ended last season ranked 18th in the polls. Jackson State’s JaCobian Morgan named Phil Steele SWAC Offensive Player of the Year, over a dozen JSU players named to Preseason All-Conference Teams

Courtesy of Jackson State Athletics: Jackson State had 13 players named to 16 spots on the Phil Steele Preseason All-Conference Team released on Friday, including the offensive player of the year and nine first team positions. JaCobian Morgan was named First Team quarterback and the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year award after earning Offensive Most Valuable Player at the Cricket Celebration Bowl last season. The graduate student finished last season with 2,051 yards through the air on 150-of-234 passing, finishing the season 10-1 as a starter, including 10 consecutive wins.…

SWAC Spring Meeting Concludes: All Teams Opt In on NCAA settlement

The Southwestern Athletic Conference concluded its Annual Spring Meetings last Friday and Saturday.  Most notable of the key topics discussed by SWAC membership administrators was the recent House v. NCAA settlement. The landmark agreement allows for institutions to make direct payments stemming primarily from NIL activities; it also sets aside $2.8 billion to retroactively compensate athletes who competed from 2016-2024. Alabama State wins 2024-25 SWAC Commissioner’s Cup

Courtesy of the Southwestern Athletic Conference The Alabama State University Athletics Department claimed two-of-three Southwestern Athletic Conference 2024-25 all-sports awards winning the James Frank Commissioner’s Cup and the Sadie Magee/Barbara Jacket Award for the third consecutive year. The Jackson State University Athletics Department claimed the C.D. Henry Award to round out the list of institutional winners. Alabama State claimed the James Frank Commissioner’s Cup after amassing 163.0 total points. Jackson State (147.5 points) and Southern (139.5) claimed second and third place respectively. SWAC Men’s Basketball 2024-25 postseason honorees

Coach of the Year, Kevin Johnson, Southern  In just his second season in Bagon Rouge,Coach Johnson led Southen to a 20-11 overall record and 15-3 mark within the SWAC and earning the Jaguars the SWAC regular season crown.
