Albany State Volleyball gets homecoming win over Fort Valley

Courtesy of Dr. Earnest Brown, Albany State Athletics The Golden Rams won their 5th straight game after defeating the Fort Valley State Wildcats (3-0) on volleyball homecoming at The Jones Brothers Health, Physical Education and Recreation Complex on Tuesday evening.  With the win, the Golden Rams improved to (14-10) overall and (14-1) in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.  It was the Golden Rams 10th victory at home. The Wildcats fell to (10-12) overall and (5-10) in the conference.   The Golden Rams won set 1 by the score of (25-19).  In set 2, the Golden…

Courtesy of the Southwestern Athletic Conference The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Alabama A&M’s Xavier Lankford, Texas Southern’s Jacob Williams and LaDarius Owens along with Mississippi Valley State’s Ty’Jarian Williams its SWAC Football Players of the Week for their impressive performances during games played this past weekend.  OffenseLankford helped lead the Bulldogs to their first win at Grambling State since 2011. Tennessee State’s Terrell Allen named Big South-OVC Defensive Player of the Week

Tennessee State defensive lineman Terrell Allen was named Big South-OVC Defensive Player of the Week for his gridiron exploits this past weekend. In the Tigers’ Homecoming win against the Spartans of Norfolk State, Allen recorded seven tackles ( 6 solo), 4 tackles for loss, as well as a pass breakup. Allen also recorded a pair of sacks, which was his first multi-sack game of the season. Tennessee State head coach Eddie George has led the Tigers to a 4-2 record after their 24-17 Homecoming win over Norfolk State on Saturday. SWAC announces ESPN-televised basketball games for 2023-24

Texas Southern and Jackson State will tip off four consecutive Mondays of primetime SWAC matchups on ESPNU on January 22nd.A week later, Alcorn State will travel to face Bethune-Cookman on January 29th. Tennessee State’s Lowery named Big South-OVC Special Teams Player of the Week

Tennessee State kicker James Lowery was named Co-Big South-OVC Special Teams Player of the Week. In the Tigers 27-20 win over Kennesaw State on Saturday, the junior kicker belted a career-long 51 yard kick and also connected from 41-yards, extending his streak of consecutive kicks to five, all of which have come from at least 40-yards. Lowery was also 3-3 on extra points on the afternoon. This was the second time on the season Lowery has earned all-Conference honors.
