SIAC Announces Weekly Baseball Honourees

Albany State Tennis finishes 3rd in SIAC

Despite not winning the conference title this weekend, the team was able to defeat the Panthers of Clark-Atlanta University in the consolation at the SIAC Tournament, 5-2. Asia Raulerson, Bianca Leao, Carla Sorroche and Sumana Panauganti were all victorious in their singles matches. In doubles competition, Leao and Panauganti claimed their match 6-2 ; Doylisha Copeland and Allyah Williams were also victors, winning match by a 6-2 count as well. With the win the Golden Rams complete the 2022 season with an 18-6 record.

SIAC announces All-Conference Golf honorees

Ten student-athletes have been honored as part of the 2021-22 Men’s Golf All-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Team, as announced Monday. Headlining the All-SIAC Team are Miles’ Christian Copen, the SIAC Player of the Year, and Spring Hill’s Nicholas Couchard, the SIAC Freshman of the Year. Miles College’s Leonard Smoot garnered SIAC Coach of the Year accolades. The All-SIAC Player, Freshman, and Coach of the Year was selected by the league’s head coaches and sports information directors, while the all-conference teams were decided by conference rankings with a minimum of 12 rounds. Copen has been the…

Savannah State’s Gabrielle Benn has been named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Year and headlines the 2022 All-SIAC Team.  The honors, announced Saturday, were determined by votes from the league’s head coaches and sports information directors. Esperance Follykoue of Benedict, earned this year’s Freshman of the Year honors, while Clark Atlanta’s head coach, Tara Turner, was named Coach of the Year. Albany State splits first two with Fort Valley

The Golden Rams softball team split with the Fort Valley State University Wildcats on Saturday, April 9.  The Golden Rams are now 29-4 (13-2 in the SIAC) while the Wildcats are 10-22 (3-11 in the SIAC). In game #1, the Golden Rams lost (6-5).  The Golden Rams led 5-2 going into the bottom of the 7th inning.  But, the Wildcats exploded for 4 runs in the inning to upset the Golden Rams.  Alera Buie scored when Hailey Bracey singled in the bottom of the 7th inning to win the game for the Wildcats.  Glory Seay hit a…

Albany State hires Jeremy Atwell as Defensive Coordinator and Backers Coach

Prior to arriving in Albany, Atwell spent the past two seasons as the defensive coordinator at New Mexico Highlands University. Albany State comes up short in SIAC Semis

The Albany State tennis team will not be playing for a shot at the conference title, as they were defeated in their semi-final match with the Tigers of Savannah State, 5-2. In singles competition, Bianca Leao and Sumana Panauganti claimed victory in their matches, while in doubles play, Leao and Panaugouti won their match, (6-3). Up next for the now 17-6 Golden Rams is the consolation game against Clark-Atlanta. That and the title match between no.1 Benedict and no.3 Savannah State are both scheduled for 10 AM EST.

Grambling’s Monfries sets personal best at Knight Invatational

Golden Rams add Charlie Skalaski IV to coaching staff

From Albany State Athletics Charlie Skalaski (Skuh-LA-Skee) IV enters his first season at Albany State after being hired to serve as the Passing Game Coordinator, Quarterbacks Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. Skalaski joins the Golden Rams with fourteen seasons of coaching experience, including four at the high school level, and ten years at the college level. In those seasons, Skalaski has been a part of one State Championship, five conference championships, two trips to the Division I FCS playoffs and one NCFA National Championship.
